WHO Discusses Danger of New Virus Variant

WHO: Do Not Relax Measures Against Virus Too Quickly

The World Health Organization (WHO) calls on countries not to relax measures against the coronavirus too quickly.

Then the virus could take over again.

“It is similar to a situation where you are ill yourself and get out of bed too quickly,” said a WHO spokesperson. “Then you risk relapse and complications.”

Many countries have taken stringent measures in recent weeks to prevent the spread of the infectious virus. These restrictions are now being gradually phased out in some places.

The WHO does not come up with general guidelines about when governments can let the reins take place.

It remains the responsibility of the countries themselves to make an estimate of the risks.
