US President Donald Trump has approved the declaration of a state of emergency in the capital Washington.
The state of emergency is in effect after a mob of enraged Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday to prevent Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory from being ratified by parliament.
The Washington state of emergency will be in effect until January 24, four days after Biden’s inauguration. The necessary unrest is also expected around that occasion.
The FBI warned on Monday that armed protests are being planned across the country in the run-up to Biden’s swearing-in. Actions would be prepared not only in Washington but also in the capitals of the states.
The mayor of Washington and the governors of the adjacent US states of Virginia and Maryland have urged the public not to attend Biden’s inauguration.
