Japanese people who have bought tickets for the postponed Tokyo Olympics can return them online next month. They will then receive their money back.
The return period runs from November 10 to 30. For the Paralympic Games, this is from December 1 to December 21.
The Tokyo Games were scheduled to be held last summer but were postponed by a year due to the corona pandemic.
The global sporting event is now scheduled from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Purchased tickets remain valid, but can also be returned.
Japan had already sold nearly 4.5 million tickets for the Games. For the Paralympic Games, the counter stood at almost 1 million tickets.
It is still unclear whether spectators will be welcome next year. Visitor numbers may be reduced.
In that case, there will be a new period in which ticket buyers can request a refund. Japan has estimated that ticket sales will generate about 750 million pounds.
