Taiwanese Chip Maker TSMC Concerned about China and US Trade Dispute

Chip manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is very concerned about the trade tensions between the United States and China. The company is one of the giant suppliers to technology giant Apple and a significant customer of Dutch chip machine maker ASML.

Founder and outgoing chairman Morris Chang warned in business newspaper Financial Times that the trade dispute between the two superpowers could disrupt the supply chain for Apple.

“It is a new challenge that I have never faced in the past,” Chang says, “but my successors have to deal with that risk,” he added.

TSMC makes the most chips for Apple’s iPhones, in factories in Taiwan. But not only the Apple chain can be in danger, but Chang also spoke about negative consequences for the “wider supply chain for mobile phones.”
