The Russian authorities are investigating the safety of respirators used in two hospitals that treat corona patients. Their fires cost the lives of several people.

In the last fire in a hospital in Saint Petersburg, five people died on Tuesday. A source tells news agency TASS that a respirator caught fire.

This also happened a few days earlier in a hospital in Moscow, resulting in death.

Both ventilators come from the same factory in the Urals, according to a source. In addition to investigating the safety of the devices, a criminal investigation has also been initiated for Tuesday’s fire.

Russia has stepped up domestic production of respirators due to the corona crisis.

In some places outside the major cities, old devices are used according to experts, but the device in Saint Petersburg would have been new.
