The Norwegian prosecutor’s office still considers convicted terrorist and mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik (42) a hazardous man and therefore wants to keep him locked up.

Breivik has stated in court that he has changed but has not, prosecutor Hulda Karlsdottir said during a court hearing at Skien prison on Thursday over a request from the Utøya killer for parole.

According to the OM, nothing has changed in his behaviour, and Breivik poses the same danger as ten years ago. “The case is clear. Breivik cannot be trusted. The Breivik who is asking for trust today is the same Breivik who attacked the government district in Oslo and caused a massacre on the island of Utøya. No perpetrator in Norway committed such serious crimes committed like him,” said Karlsdottir.

Breivik killed 77 people in attacks in Oslo and on Utøya from far-right and Islamophobic motives. In the summer of 2012, he was sentenced to the then-current maximum sentence of 21 years in prison, but that can be extended as long as he is considered a danger.

During the hearing on Wednesday, psychiatrist Randi Rosenqvist ruled that Breivik is still just as dangerous as it was eleven years ago. Court-appointed Rosenqvist has evaluated the extremists several times over the past decade. But, according to her, Breivik’s risk of committing violence again if he is released has not changed during that time.

The judge is likely to decide on parole next week.
