IKEA Investigates the Possibility of ‘Zalando for Furniture.’ The Swedish furniture giant IKEA is researching a sales platform where competitors can also offer furniture, says Inter IKEA CEO Torbjorn Loof, according to the reports.
“Where are the opportunities between dominating, large,
global platforms and the company website?”, The CEO asks himself in the discussion.
“There are many possibilities for us, like Zalando: they are a kind of platform for fashion and clothing,
and I think it’s an exciting area to explore.”
According to Loof, the tips are currently being set for a test to offer IKEA products to third parties,
such as the Chinese webshop Alibaba or Amazon.
It is not yet apparent with which web store IKEA will cooperate.
The CEO emphasises that the company is not yet in discussions with competitors about possible cooperation.
Earlier, the furniture giant declared that it was already experimenting with the renting and leasing of furniture.
The company is also examining with stores in the centre of cities and offering a furniture assembly service.
