France will invite approximately 1.3 million inhabitants in the Île-de-France region, which also includes Paris, to be tested for the coronavirus.
That said health minister Olivier Véran to the newspaper Le Monde. The tests should identify the group of people who are infected but have no symptoms.
The “test campaign” is primarily targeting people who live near former outbreaks, Véran said. Besides, in Île-de-France, French people in three other regions also receive an invitation for a test.
The area in question contains three-quarters of all people in France who ended up in an intensive care unit as a result of infection with the coronavirus.
Afterwards, the campaign is being considered to expand, Véran said. “We are in an experimental phase to see if this corresponds to what the French want,” said the minister.
