Deposed Myanmar Leader Suu Kyi Has Been Taken to Court

The impeached government leader of Myanmar appeared in court via a video link on Monday. Aung San Suu Kyi seemed to be in good health, according to her lawyer.

The military arrested the Nobel Prize winner when it seized power in early February. Authorities subsequently filed multiple charges against her.

These are related to the illegal import of walkie-talkies and holding a campaign meeting during the corona crisis.

Another charge was added during the hearing. The 75-year-old politician has also violated the ban on the publication of information that could cause unrest. Attorney Min Min Soe says the next hearing is scheduled for March 15.

Meanwhile, unrest is growing in Myanmar. Citizens take to the streets en masse to demand the restoration of democracy.

Security forces opened fire on demonstrators in at least four cities on Sunday. The United Nations says at least 18 people have died.
