Colombia Extradites Arrested Drug Lord to the US

Biden Wants More Money From the Police, No More Cell for Drug Use

US President Joe Biden does not want to take money from the police and wants no more prison sentences for drug possession, he said during his question time in Milwaukee.

Since the violent death of, among others, the black arrestee George Floyd, calls have been made in the United States to transfer budget from the police to neighbourhoods and communities that are struggling from a socio-economic point of view.

For years, strict drug policies have left a disproportionate number of black Americans in prison.

When asked during question time what he wants to do about high-crime neighbourhoods and how he wants to train officers to be more compassionate, he replied, “First, by not taking money away from the police.” Biden told his audience that he wants to put more money into the police.

“We need to invest more in this to make this work so that we have a legitimate police force in the communities and so that we get into a situation where we can change the law,” Biden said.

During the election campaign, Biden pledged to allocate $ 300 million (about € 248 million) to create more diverse police forces and train agents to be more friendly with people.

He also reiterated the campaign promise on Tuesday to end jail sentences for drug users. “No one should go to jail for a drug offence. No one should go to jail for using drugs, and they should go to rehab,” the president said.
