Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese introduces a TikTok ban for politicians and civil servants. Federal government employees can no longer use the app on their work phones, Australian media report.
More and more countries are banning officials from using TikTok due to concerns about espionage.
Chinese technology company ByteDance owns the globally popular social media platform and has come under fire since the technology company admitted that certain employees had access to US and European users’ data. The authorities fear that information on the phones will fall into the hands of the Chinese authorities. The Beijing government denies this.
TikTok has now been banned for government employees in Belgium, France, the United Kingdom and EU institutions.
