The air-raid siren went off in Kyiv on Thursday, shortly after the leaders of France, Germany and Italy arrived there. The air raid sirens sounded in other parts of the country as well.

It marks the first time French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi have visited Ukraine since the Russian invasion.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Thursday that Russian missiles could still strike his city at any moment. He is “happy and proud” that European leaders nevertheless took the risk of coming to Kyiv. “This visit is above all symbolically important,” said Klitschko.

The three leaders arrived in Kyiv on Thursday morning, after taking the night train in Poland. They will speak with President Volodymyr Zelensky about arms supplies and Ukraine’s application for European Union membership.
